Overview

Osteria Bancogiro stands as a gem on the bustling Campo S. Giacomo di Rialto in Venice, where the charm of the Venetian lagoon merges effortlessly with authentic cuisine. This Venetian restaurant offers more than just a meal—it delivers an experience infused with the spirit of the city, framed by the enchanting view of the Grand Canal.

The space gracefully accommodates those seeking either a vibrant al fresco meal by the water or a cozy indoor setting. The intimate interior invites guests to relax, especially when the weather is less forgiving. This dual ambiance caters to a diverse clientele—tourists craving iconic sights alongside food lovers eager to savor regional delicacies.

The menu is a well-curated tribute to Venetian flavors. From classic spritz e ciccheti to the fresh anticipation of a fish platter, the offerings are varied and refined. Highlights like the seared octopus with red chicory sauce paired with backed celeriac and crunchy speck deliver a bold but balanced taste profile that stands out among Venetian seafood cuisine. The antipasti, especially the Antipasto Misto Di Pesce, showcase fresh ingredients treated with care and precision.

For dessert, the tiramisu consistently receives high praise, often described as one of the best on the trip—a testimony to both tradition and craftsmanship. The cheese cake and ostriche e champagne round out an elegant selection that complements the savory courses perfectly.

Service is warm, attentive, and fluent in English, easing the way for international guests to feel instantly comfortable. The staff’s recommendations often enhance the dining experience, pairing the well-known Aperol Spritz or Champagne with the meal seamlessly. Between the bustling bar downstairs—renowned for its variety of cicchetti—and the relaxed dining area, guests can sample Venetian tapas-style plates that capture the city’s vibrant food culture.

While some may find portions on the smaller side, the quality justifies the setting and the culinary craft—factors that reflect Venice’s reputation as a tourist and gastronomic hub. Whether you seek a romantic dinner watching the sunset over the canal or a lively tasting session of cicchetti with a spirited crowd, Osteria Bancogiro offers a genuine slice of Venetian lifestyle and cuisine.

In summary, Osteria Bancogiro is a destination that blends authentic Venetian fare with scenic charm and welcoming service. It’s a must-visit for food enthusiasts who value atmosphere and taste equally, promising a memorable introduction to Venice’s rich culinary traditions.

Great place for food with a view Unfortunately we arrived with bad weather so was not able to sit outside by the canal We said inside away from the cold and it was a different kind of cozy atmosphere The waiter was friendly and spoke great English The food was good except portions felt bit small for the prices The costs are definitely higher in Venice compared to other cities in Italy You can tell this place is often visited by tourist as they have some many restaurant reviews and awards You can also choose to get some cicchetti by the bar downstairs and sample more items as they are known for their cicchetti

Well, after a fair few glasses of wine, I'm likely to wax lyrical about this restaurant, but by God they deserve it. After two weeks travelling through Italy, South to North, and some really "good" food, I feel like we truly discovered "great". Osteria Bancogiro was just wonderful. The setting next to the canal, the friendly and welcoming service, and the food...! We decided to have the grilled octopus as a starter. Southern Italy eat your heart out. It was amazing. Then the veal and the lamb. Utterly sublime. We couldn't have asked for a better first evening meal in Venice, with more welcoming and friendly staff. Go there if you can. You'll thank me!

The restaurant is right next to the canal. Stunning view during the sunset. We ordered several dishes, they were all good, especially the shrimp for starter and the fish for main. Tiramisu was the best one I had during this trip

Cicchetti was alright, but they were better than the spots nearby. The big name cicchetti spots were all closed in the early afternoon so we came here and it was okay

Al fresco sitting with the grand canal in view is lovely. The range of cichetti is so good. We ended up almost ordering one of each. We had 12 different ones. Totally enjoyed them as each of them is well balanced and flavoured. Service staff is great too, warm and prompt.

It’s a little expensive, but it’s really worth it. I went with two other people and I had the lamb and it was good. My friend had the steak which I had a piece of, and it was delicious as well. The presentation of the food was well worth it too as each plate looked amazing. I would definitely come back here and I extremely recommend it.

I made a dinner reservation a couple of weeks in advance of our trip to Venice. We had a lovely table out back looking over the grand canal. The food was elegant, well presented and delicious - the quality of ingredients really shone through. It was by far our favourite meal on our trip. Whilst this place is a popular spot for cicchetti and social drinks, I highly recommend making a dinner reservation for a more cultured experience. We look forward to dining here again when we return to Venice.
